Emmet Quinn is the estranged father of Sonny Quinn. It's referenced they've had a rocky father-son relationship after the passing of Sonny's mother. It's shown that there's still bad blood boiling between the two Quinn's. As seen when Sonny, Hannah & Emmet sit down to eat at the dinner table.

Emmet Quinn is the stranger father of Sonny Quinn. It's shown & mentioned how they don't see eye to eye. And that they've had a hostile relationship after Sonny's passed away. But it appears they made up for lost time when Emmet aided Sonny in re-fixing the ranches fences & Now that Sonny has seen his prized car sitting in his fathers barn. But he had always thought that Emmet had let the car go to waste. And sold it for a cheap prize. But Emmet directing Sonny to the barn telling him the cars in there. Sonny goes to check it out. To find that the car is in perfect condition as if it was brand new.
Season 3[]
Emmet and Sonny seen each other for the first time in approximately 15 to 20 years. His son helps him calm down spooked stallion, the exchange of very brief greeting before Sonny makes his exit.
A couple days later his son and Hannah Oliver come by his house. Hannah suggest they have a meal together she has brought some food with her to share. Over dinner father and son get into another argument to which Sunny escalates the disagreement before leaving the table.
Father and son continue working on the relationship, while Sonny continues to help around the farm. Though he is surprised when his father confines he might have to sell a large chunk of their land to stay afloat.
After his training finishes, Sonny admits he wants to stay in Texas permanently and settled down, possibly buying the plot of land his dad is looking to sell. But his dad insists he returned to the Navy, because he is so proud of him, and he left 18 years ago for reason.
